Science of Beliefs

You may be wondering...
How can the term beliefs be connected to science?

Beliefs are often thought of as spiritual or religious beliefs. However, there are also political beliefs, as well as beliefs that impact every aspect of our life. The combination of the two concepts is to bridge the world between knowing something as reality and discovering the scientific application that indicates it is reality.

Note: This is a broad topic and the intention of this page is to provide some general reference concepts rather than an education. For a deeper understanding of any section, search the internet for references or access the suggested resources.

“The ‘secret to life’ is BELIEF.  Rather than genes, it is our beliefs that control our lives. PSYCH-K® is a simple, self-empowering process to change your beliefs and perceptions that impact your life at a cellular level.”

Science & Spirituality

Originally, science was part of the religious leaders’ responsibility. Then there was a clear separation of viewpoints during the nineteenth century. However with the discovery of quantum theory, the observer effect, entanglement, and current cutting edge research, there appears to be a merging of concepts regarding oneness, unity, and interconnectedness.

(during the nineteenth century)... “Since mental phenomena, such as consciousness, thoughts, images, and emotions, were not physical, the mind had to be either ignored or regarded as a property of matter... the mind could not ‘exist’ unless it was reduced to something purely physical, the ‘gray matter’ of the brain. By the early twentieth century it was becoming clear to physicists that certain properties of matter itself depend on the role of the observer—mind and matter are not independent from each other. Could it be that both mind and matter are real, part of nature, and intimately interconnected?”
—B. Alan Wallace and Brian Hodel, authors
Embracing Mind: The Common Ground of Science & Spirituality

The words or terms used may be different such as nature, matrix, universe, God or creator but the implication is the same.

“A human being is part of the whole, called by us ‘universe’; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest—a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
— Albert Einstein

“In essence, science and spirituality, though differing in their approaches, share the same end, which is the betterment of humanity.”
— Dalai Lama, as quoted in
Embracing Mind

However you define spirituality, using the PSYCH-K® process supports you in removing the filters of limitation so you can reconnect with your inner wisdom and spirit. We can attempt to explain this process in scientific terms, yet ultimately it is more aligned with spiritual awareness. You can chose to experience life as you always have or explore that there are more options available... it’s your choice.

Years ago, after many promises of baking homemade cookies for a friend...he finally stated “Intentions do not make chocolate chip cookies!” And he was absolutely correct. Per the dictionary, intention is ‘an act or instance of determining
mentally upon some action or result.’ Historically, action such as physical activity or behavior was necessary to achieve the results. However, current research is indicating that a thought itself may produce certain results.

“Targeting your thoughts—or what scientists ponderously refer to as ‘intention’ or intentionality’—appeared to produce an energy potent enough to change physical reality. A simple thought seemed to have the power to change our world.”
— Lynne McTaggart, author
The Intention Experiment and
The Field: The Quest for the Secret Force of the Universe

The ongoing research about the impact of intention is fascinating. One aspect is about coherency, being aligned together, provides the powerful influence. When there is confusion or chaos, incoherency, the impact is reduced or eliminated.

When our conscious desires or demands are different from our subconscious programs, the lack of coherency shuts down our probabilities of success. By aligning your subconscious beliefs with your conscious goals and ensuring support from spirit or universe, achievement can seem miraculous.

Placebo Effect

The term placebo is used in medicine to represent sugar pills or false treatments. Quality research studies require a comparison to a placebo. The frustration to researchers and fascination to others is that often one-third of the placebo candidates experience the expected improvements. Those candidates had a belief in the drug, surgery or provided care. Their belief created the results.

“Beliefs can be a major source of illness and a major force in treatment.”
— Herbert Benson, M.D.,
Timeless Healing

Makes you wonder why placebo or beliefs are being dismissed as a bother in the research results rather than creating curiosity and direct research...

Molecules of Emotions

Emotions may create an internal awareness or may be externally demonstrated. Either way, they have a biological influence within our physical body. If you react to a spider with fear, you may avoid looking at it or you may scream and run away. Someone else thinks the spider is cool and tries to pick it up. It is not about the spider, it is about what you believe or your perceptions about spiders. The fear response (fight or flight) creates known documented physical changes in the body. Your mind’s perceptions or beliefs impacts how the internal physical body responds.

“If we accept the idea that peptides and other informational substances (molecules) are the biochemicals of emotion, their distribution in the body’s nerves has all kinds of significance... The body is the unconscious mind! Repressed traumas caused by overwhelming emotion can be stored in a body part, thereafter affecting (it).”
— Candace B. Pert, Ph.D., author

By changing your perceptions and beliefs, you can change the impact on your physical health, peace of mind and joy in life.

Right and Left Brain Hemispheres

Although arguing about details, neuroscientists agree that the two brain hemispheres, the right and the left, approach the processing and interpretation of our world and experiences in different ways. However, they are designed to work together to provide us with an integrated, balanced perspective of life...a whole-brained approach.

“Because our two hemispheres are so neuronally integrated via the corpus callosum, virtually every cognitive behavior we exhibit involves activity in both hemispheres - they simply do it differently... as two complementary halves of a whole rather than as two individual entities or identities.”

— Jill Bolte Taylor, Ph.D., author
My Stroke of Insight

For example: The left hemisphere is analyzes information and details while the right hemisphere synthesizes and sees the big picture.

When stress occurs, the flow of information and communication is impacted creating a limited view from one perspective or the other.

Being able to access both approaches as needed provides us with choices and options as well as a calm, centered response. Creating a whole-brained integrated state is a foundational aspect of the PSYCH-K® process.

Neurotherapist shares his view of PSYCH-K®:

With trillions of cells in the human body being coordinated and working together (most of the time), we are miracles. From the beginning of human awareness, there has been curiosity and research about how this miracle called us works.

Neuroscience is about exploring the functionality of the nervous system and nerve cells called neurons, which carry “messages” through an electrochemical process. More specifically, neuroscience is trying to figure out how the approximately 100 billion brain cells (each of which connects and communicates with up to 10,000 others in a network of one quadrillion connections) coordinate autonomic body systems, subconscious responses and memories as well as conscious awareness.

“Because the brain is an associative network, and because our memories record not just specific details of events but also our feelings about them, when the brain is under the influence of one emotion, it habitually makes connections to past events that triggered the same emotional response... Our emotional state skews our sense of perspective by seeking out memories that match our current mindset instead of a balanced, representative sample.”
— Steven Johnson, author
Mind Wide Open

how it works does not necessarily lead to changing the outcome. Knowing how to change the emotional state to a balanced perspective seems to be the ultimate goal...and that has been successfully done with PSYCH-K® for over 20 years. It has been thrilling watching the empirical scientific research, catch up with the anecdotal proof!

Current brain research has documented that repetition of action and thoughts form and change the complex circuitry of the brain - this is known as neuroplasticity.

"The power of attention not only allows us to choose what mental direction we will take. It also allows us, by actively focusing attention on one rivulet in the stream of consciousness, to change — in scientifically demonstrable ways — the systematic functioning of our own neural circuitry...One's choice of what aspect of experience to focus on is an expression of the active part of mental life."
— Jeffrey M. Schwartz, M.D., author The Mind and The Brain

Bring the power of focused attention to work for you to activate more than just conscious attention...

Discover the power to make lasting change...

by involving and partnering with your subconscious, the storehouse of your beliefs and precursor for your conscious thoughts, you can identify and rewrite old scripts and programs that are running (ruining) your life. You choose what to improve!

A “new science” that is emerging into general awareness is epigenetics. Although not actually new because it has been known within the scientific research community for over 20 years...

Epi means before or above the genes. The research indicates that genes do not turn themselves on or off independently. Something from outside the cell influences their activation or deactivation. The influence may be from the environment or experiences.

To keep this short, our perception of things happening in our physical world influences our internal response as either growth enhancing emotion or fear and protection emotion. (Yes, a
few things are perceived as neutral.) Depending on your perception which is fed by your beliefs, your body systems responds accordingly.

For example, if over many years you have experienced certain stress (which is often a perception and not real), your body/mind system may influence the expression of a gene(s) that negatively impacts your physical health.

And there have been many documented cases of “spontaneous healing” which represents a gene(s) being deactivated.

“Genes do not control biology...they are used by biology.”

Quantum Theory

Early 1900s — that is when quantum theory rocked the physics world!

However, Classic Newtonian physics is still being taught (the one we learned in school with solid objects called atoms having a nucleus, electrons and protons...remember?) and still works quite well for explaining large, macroscopic objects.

Yet when this ‘new’ theory was used to look inside the atom, space was discovered but not empty space, space filled with subtle, powerful energy. Energy that increases with each subtler level.

A shocking discovery was that depending on how the observer observed... the sub-particles of an atom (the energy) could be behave as a particle with a specific location or as a wave spreading out like ripples in a pond. The implications of this are mind blowing.

Our physical body is solid...or is it? If our bodies are composed of cells and cells are made up of atoms and atoms are mostly energy...then we are energy. Our perception or observation of being physical collapses the potentiality energy into solid form. And now to stretch this farther, thoughts are energy messages within the cells...thus, what we think (or believe) to be true is creating our perception of reality. Got it?

“If you think (believe) you can or think (believe) you can’t, you’re right.” — Henry Ford

The beliefs we have impact our perception of everything and influence the choices we make and actions we take. Whether explained through quantum theory or not, you have experienced being stopped, blocked or limited by yourself. Learn how to be the master of your perceptions by learning and applying PSYCH-K®.

Energy Medicine

There are two schools of thought regarding energy medicine... ‘it works’ verses ‘show me the research.’

Often the concept of energy medicine is interpreted as hands on healing or working with the energy meridian system of the body.

However, traditional medicine uses energy approaches daily... EKG, EEG, MRI, lasers, and many others.

The difference is one is machine generated and the other is generated by or through a human.

“Can we really emit energy from our hands? We know that nerves transmit electrical pulses, and we know that electric currents give off electromagnetic fields. We also know that each thought comes about in a separate pattern of neurons firing. So why is it so hard to go the next step — at least to speculate that each thought produces a different state of energy? And why can’t that energy be transferred out of the body?”
— Mehmet C. Oz, M.D., author
Healing from the Heart

Energy can be measured as vibrational waves. There are the visible energies of the rainbow. There are energies that we can’t see yet we use in our everyday activities such as cell phones, the internet, radio, TV, etc. And there are even subtler energies that scientists know exist but the methods for measurement have not yet been discovered.

Another idea within the concept of energy medicine is with the impact of our thoughts on our physical body. You have experienced that when you are feeling great...your thoughts have more energy. As opposed to when you are feeling down...your thoughts are sad...and you feel low energy.

Change your thoughts, change the beliefs that initiate the thoughts, and change your energy. You can be your own healer!
